Dr. Catherine Johnson Joins Focused Eye Care

Expertise in Pediatric Optometry Expands Services for Young Children

NASHUA, N.H. (January 8, 2024) – Focused Eye Care, a practice dedicated to providing comprehensive eye health and vision care services to southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts, recently welcomed Catherine Johnson, Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) and Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (F.A.A.O.), to its growing team in a newly created pediatric role. Bringing 16 years of specialized training and extensive experience in pediatric optometry to Focused Eye Care, Dr. Johnson will expand the practice’s ability to serve very young children as well as individuals with disabilities.

“Children’s vision and eye health has always been a top priority at Focused Eye Care,” said Dr. Sarah Jagatic, O.D., a partner of the practice. “With Dr. Johnson on board, we now offer pediatric expertise and services for children and individuals with disabilities that are unmatched in southern New Hampshire.”

Dr. Johnson earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from New England College of Optometry (NECO) and completed her pediatric optometry residency at the same institution. She subsequently became an associate professor at NECO while providing pediatric eye care services at school-based clinics in Boston and Perkins school for the Blind in Watertown Massachusetts. She later joined Specialized Pediatric Eye Care; a community-based child’s vision specialty office based in Massachusetts. She has been involved in numerous research studies and has written extensively about pediatric vision topics, including amblyopia, the role of vision and eye health in optimizing learning and issues surrounding access to care. Dr. Johnson has donated her time to international eye care missions and a broad range of regional causes. She continues to serve as a Coalition Member for Children’s Vision Massachusetts.

Dr. Johnson has worked at Perkins School for the Blind and other organizations serving individuals with disabilities, finding it deeply rewarding to advance public health for all populations. Her passion for her work with children carries over to her practice, where she focuses on each child’s unique visual and developmental needs.

“I value working with community members to treat eye health holistically, particularly when vision plays such an important role in childhood development,” said Dr. Johnson.

Dr. Johnson resides in Andover, Massachusetts with her husband and three children.
